[ Ben didn't see Pratt coming. He doesn't know what it is that tackles him from the side; the impact is sudden and unexpected and he makes a soft cry of surprise as he is knocked over, loses his balance and goes tripping and stumbling to the ground. Then he sees it was Pratt, and gets that the other man tackled him. Only in Ben's mind, he thinks Pratt is attacking him, now.

Which hits him a bit like a punch to the stomach. It's a fair reaction. He knows that. He knows what he is. But damn, it still hurts, a lot. For a moment the sadness, the ache of it is too intense to say anything. But Ben pushes past it because he needs Pratt to understand: ]

Hold on- I'm not gonna hurt you, I promise-

[ He scrambles to get to his feet again, looking wide eyed between Pratt (and the wolf that is tugging on his shirt) and the place where Jacob was. Only it hadn't been an illusion. There is no gore, no entrails, no body at all. Just that familiar shifting cloud, and suddenly, Ben gets it. ]

Oh, shit. We need to get out of here, Deputy. That thing's not Jacob. We gotta go.

[ The cloud is beginning to condense into a human shape again, and Ben's heart is racing, all this adrenaline and confusion and hurt. What is it going to become, next? Will Pratt listen to him, or is he even more scared of Ben, now? ]
