[ Ben gives a little nod of agreement when Klaus says they look alive to him. It is what Ben had been thinking, in the back of his mind. Some part of him (the part connected to the creatures on the other side of the portal, most likely) recognized those kinds of movements. Potential prey. Which, yuck, and Ben pushes that thought down and out of sight. ]

They do. But it could be... a projection. Hologram. Who knows.

[ Ben stops moving forward at the same moment that Klaus does. It's become instinct in a way, moving along with him, stopping when he does, starting up again when he does. He feels Klaus's fingers gripping near his wrist, but his eyes are transfixed on that bird. It does not seem frightened of them, flying over to settle on a branch just a few feet in front of them.

Slowly, trying not to scare it off, Ben takes out the device again, checks the radiation again. He holds it out, moving very slowly, trying to get a closer reading on the bird. But nothing is registering. ]

Do you think they're really there?

[ This place likes its illusions, after all. All of Ben's wariness and sarcasm has fallen away, and he smiles faintly, looking at that small bird. From this close it is clear the bird's glow follows the color patterns of its feathers, different shades of blue, hints of greenish and whitish glow shining through in different spots. ]

It's beautiful.

[ Ben breathes it out, voice full of wonder. Klaus can make fun of him if he wants, he doesn't care right now. ]
