You didn't have to think too hard to work out that Charles was used to rejection. A lot of the members of the gang were, left behind by society as they were for so many different reasons. Arthur isn't sure what it is that's more surprising to Charles: That he didn't question why he hadn't been told earlier, that he didn't immediately walk away, that he's not asking more questions ...

It doesn't really matter. He understands why Charles hasn't said anything, and after everything that has happened, it would take something extraordinary for him to leave someone who's the closest thing to stability and sense that he has left in life. Charles is clearly no different for it. That matters more than anything else.

Arthur does, however, watch Charles with more curiosity than usual as he gets dressed. He is curious. Since when? Since before they met, or did it happen sometime during? Have there been any hints that he's missed?

"It might be."

He knows Charles very well. That kind of helps. And it will probably help whatever he has to say, too, but still he can't exactly say how he'll react.
