Tentatively, Ben turns the knob and opens the door, slowly enough that Cole can call out or stop him if he doesn't want Ben to look inside. He had been expecting... well, a room. Some furniture. Not just... a closet. For a moment the surprise leaves Ben silent, and the pang of sympathy and increased worry are doubtless obvious to Cole as if Ben had announced them aloud.
"No. I just. Wanted to spend some time with you. If that's, like. Cool."
Ben has no particular claustrophobia - that is one of Klaus's demons, not his - but even he feels cramped thinking about Cole spending time in this place, alone, silent... maybe it is comforting to him? Maybe this is just a case of Ben being limited by preconceptions and cultural connotations that don't really apply.
