Ben, unlike Ami, isn't surprised by Cole's sudden appearance. In fact, knowing, as he does, that Cole could have just appeared without warning inside the room itself, the fact that he'd shown up in the entranceway, and lingers there a moment to let her adjust, are all signs of how hard he's trying not to spook her.
His entrance is surely made a little more mundane, as well, by the way Ben smiles, waves him in with a, "Hey, Cole. Come join us, let's get this party started."
Okay, maybe that was laying it on a bit thick. But that's what he's here for, isn't it? Signaling for both their sakes that everything is alright - and to watch out in case things become Not Alright at any point.
So when he sees Ami looking to him for direction, he leads the way himself, to three big armchairs that he'd moved to be facing each other in a large triangle. He sits himself down in one, legs crossed underneath him, and waits for the other two to follow suit.
Once they do, there's a brief moment of awkward silence, until Ben says, "Okay, um. Maybe we should introduce ourselves, first, since the last time you guys met I guess you didn't get around to names..."
He has no idea what he's doing so he's pulling on the only resources he has, all those group therapy sessions and NA meetings with Klaus over the years.
"You both know me, uh, I'm Ben Hargreeves. I - come from Earth, and I was a ghost for a bit, and then I came straight here. And I'm a human. Probably, mostly, even though I guess the powers make that a little complicated. So, that's me. Who wants to go next?"
