He's so young. She can't keep herself from thinking it. Even if he's obviously very smart, the way he was going at that machinery, with something very close to total understanding. Kid's capable as heck, clearly, but he's also a kid. The way he's standing, speaking with his hands, the way his story jumps all over the place, even his use of sentence fragments like punctuation and the way he's looking at her while he tells pieces of it, like he's used to being dismissed.

She's just going to need a second here.

"This group. The Avengers. Is everyone recruited into it as young as you are?" If he's been somewhere else for long enough that he can't even remember how old he is, then he got into this super-human group thing young. Even younger than he is now. Sixteen? Maybe fifteen? Can't drive a car, but expected to protect the world from an alien threat. That's not something any child should be saddled with.

She can't help thinking, in some small corner of her mind, that she hopes he didn't go through anything like what Diego has been through, recruited so young, expected to fulfill a role by someone who never really cared about what it would do to the kids themselves.
