They do a lot of stupid things in the Capitol. All sorts of excuses for parties and fads and darling you have to be there or oh you must buy it or haven't you heard about it?

As a victor, Finnick always had enough money to do whatever he wanted, but he'd never really understood the point a lot of the time. In District 4, they celebrated when they had something to celebrate, or when the Capitol mandated it. Ordinary people didn't have money to waste on we're dying our hair pink this week or everyone has to try this new cake. But they'd had a couple of their stupid fads that he'd enjoyed; one year, he'd been asked to write some poetry for their lovers' day. He's forgotten what they called it, but it had sounded fun. Fun if he could do it with Annie.

Here, Finnick and Annie can do whatever they want. They're married, have been for over a year now, and nobody here questions it. So today, vaguely remembering things people did in the Capitol but mostly just looking for a vague excuse, he's planning to pamper her. He's been to the bar and swiped some bottles of champagne. He's been back to the collection of stores that have appeared outside the city over time; fortunately there have never been enough people here to completely loot the place and he's found a few cute necklaces, some new clothes for them both and some makeup. It's still not really possible to get much in the way of fancy food here, but at least if they get hungry, they can cook in their apartment.

He misses sweet things, but he's making do.

Annie's in the fish lab when he gets back, and he takes the time while she's out to set up. Puts the bottle of champagne on the coffee table by the couch that looks out over the park. Showers, dresses in some baggy jeans and a tight shirt, and puts on some of his newly-swiped makeup. Then he sprawls himself out across the couch to wait for his wife.
