[ Ben thinks he knows the sound of a subject being avoided. The fact that this exuberant kid is not immediately telling him about the awesome alien encounter and how he had helped to save the earth from the bug-eyed hordes tells him that maybe it's not such a happy story. He might be rusty, in terms of his social skills, but he at least has the sense not to poke at a subject that got so thoroughly dropped.

Instead he focuses on the box itself, and considering what Peter said. Even though it was hidden so cleverly in that secret compartment, there might be extra security measures. Perhaps ones to ensure that no one without the key could access whatever was inside. Bomb is only one of the options. There's acid, poison, any number of traps. Ben turns the box over and over in his hands, listening, feeling for anything off in the distribution of weight, squinting at the metal around the key. ]

Don't suppose spiders have x-ray vision and nobody knew it til you got that power, too?

[ But it's just a joke; if Peter could see through solid things, he would have known what was in this room even before they got the door open. Ben worries his lower lip between his teeth and then says: ]

I vote open it. But I think we should both agree that's the best idea or - or leave it for now til we know more.

[ He isn't going to try to talk Peter into something that might be dangerous, after what he was just saying. That would be the worst hypocrisy. ]
