[ He recognizes the little story that Klaus tells him - about not covering an open wound with a dirty, gross, used bandage - as an olive branch, meant to calm him down and reassure him that Klaus is perfectly capable of handling things. It might have worked, in a more familiar setting, if Ben didn't feel so much like everything is terrifyingly spinning out of control. But he hadn't even been there when Klaus got hurt, and that makes it exponentially worse when Klaus takes off his shirt and is just covered in bruises.

Ben covers his mouth with his hand, rocking back a little on his heels. The puncture wound is the worst but the amount of other injuries, even if they all seem small, is almost as terrible. Not all of them look new, either. The rainbow of different colors from the bruises, the scabs and mostly-healed burns, all of that indicates ongoing low-level injury that actually makes him feel a little nauseous.

The frustration is gone from his expression and body language, replaced by numb shock and fear and hurt. It's a familiar sensation, this sudden awareness of his own helplessness to prevent harm from happening to his brother. But even though it's been there for as long as he can remember, it never loses its sharpness. ]

Klaus, what...?

[ His voice is tight with emotion, dark eyes concerned and loving as he tears his gaze away from the injuries and looks his brother in the face. Ben is reminded then of how much of emotion occurs in the body. All those times he had seen Klaus hurt and in peril and ODing, he had been afraid. But he'd had no heart to race, no stomach to turn, no body to go cold with anxious, overwhelmed terror. ]

That's way deeper than I thought it was gonna be. We seriously gotta find you a doctor. There could be internal bleeding or you could get tetanus or some shit.

[ If this place has the technology to bring people here from other worlds, they must at least have a hospital, right? The only trick is going to be finding it... ]
