[Lalli had totally planned this out. His own cooking experience starts and ends with "salt on everything" and "put meat in stew," but this really couldn't be that complicated. He'd seen how Mikkel cooked and he certainly didn't do anything special with it.

He'd even made the effort to painstakingly look up a recipe on one of the computer things--which had been an exercise in frustration he'd rather not dwell on, but he'd gotten through it without any help, so there--and he'd tracked down most of the ingredients. He couldn't find all of them, so he'd grabbed some others that would probably do just as well.

So all of it's spread out on a counter in front of him, and Lalli realizes he has no idea where to start. The recipe says, or it's supposed to, but it seems to assume Lalli knows things that he doesn't see why he should--like all these weird measurements with weird names. And that puts him in a bad mood, so now he's both frustrated and as confused as before.

After a while he just ends up leaning on the counter, his chin pillowed on his crossed arms, as he glares at his assortment like he can just will them into cooking for him.

This was a stupid idea and he's ready to abandon the whole thing. Reynir probably wouldn't even like it anyway.]
