hi everyone!
i just wanted to let you all know
the meet and greet party previously discussed in this space
will be held tomorrow afternoon!

it will take place in the vr room lobby
and of course everyone is invited
refreshments and games will be provided
but if you would like a little extra challenge
please feel free to bring something to share!

attendance is mandatory!

seriously though i do hope to see all of you there ;)

The day of, a party appears in the VR Room lobby area, as promised!

Though it's not brightly lit, the lights there are are brightly colored, creating a chilled-out evening atmosphere like you'd find at a club. Plush chairs and couches are interspersed throughout the room, and there's been a solid attempt to clean the place up, or at least do something about all the dust.

A shortage of conventional party supplies has forced Ami and Cho to get creative, so the tables and parts of the wall are decorated with paper flowers, and the buffet table is presided over by a number of ... weird, pink, glitter-covered, vaguely animal-shaped sculptures made out of spare plastic pipes and stuff. With googly eyes. If nothing else they're a conversation piece.

FOOD: The main offering is barbecue! There's a pretty wide assortment of meats, all of which Cho has certified safe for human consumption, and also certified delicious. Chips, dried fruit, and a few different desserts are available, including homemade chocolate chip cookies that Ami made herself (wich Cho's help). All the trays are helpfully labeled, including allergy information.

Any and all potluck submissions are welcome as well! Just set it down over here and make a little card of your own.

DRINKS: Sadly, the coffee machine is still out of order. But there is a cooler stocked with ice and a few different choices of juice and soda. Alcoholic selections are limited to two types of pre-mixed drinks, which are intentionally weak on the alcohol, but at least they're not tequila sunrises. If guests want anything stronger, they'll need to bring it themselves.

ENTERTAINMENT: In fiddling with the controls, Ami got the overhead speakers to play some music, but couldn't figure out how to modify the playlist, so it's just one song on loop. Maybe if she keeps the volume kind of low, no one will notice. No live music is scheduled, but if anyone wants to bring a guitar and jam for a while, they will be more than welcome to.

And most of the arcade games are online! Anyone for Fruit Ninja? Air hockey? Dance Dance Retribution? Virtual Billiards? Or perhaps you'd like to try out a full-simulation game in the VR Rooms proper? Now's as good a time as any!

Oh, and don't forget to enter the raffle! The winner will be chosen randomly and announced a few hours into the party.

[ Ah, it's the guy from the network! With the anti-camera badges. Ami was thinking about taking him up on that, but on the other hand... maybe somebody should be keeping an eye on her. Just in case.

Anyway! She's about to go introduce herself when he does an odd gesture - and the dumb animal statues come to life. Ami's jaw drops. In a second she might be concerned about them getting glitter all over the food, but for now... ]

Oh my god! How did you do that?!

[ loki blinks. one of the glitter horses neighs, skittering close to him. ]

Magic. How else?

[ Durrr well of course it's magic. Ami opens her mouth, can't think of anything else it could have been, and closes it. Good point, sir, good point. ]

... Are you a wizard? [ She's not an expert on magic or anything but she's pretty sure this falls under Prestidigitation. ]

[ loki grimaces at the word "wizard". ]

No. I am a God.

Oh, right. [ Like he said the other day. She's still kind of perplexed, though. ] So, um - sorry, I know I am asking a lot of dumb questions. I just kind of thought you were... I don't know, joking before, maybe. But you're actually the real Loki? Like, from the Norse pantheon?

The one and the same.

[ well. same-ish. ]

Huh.

[ She has to process that for a second. It's not that much weirder than, say, the existence of superheroes or aliens or magic, but at the same time it kind of is? She's not really a religious person at all, so it's not like his existence upsets her spiritual applecart somehow. But she's not exactly about to start worshipping him or anything, for the same reason. ]

... To be honest, I am not sure what to do with this information.

[ loki raises an eyebrow. ]

Is there something that needs to be done with it? It's who I am. Why would it concern you?

[ Sorry Loki she's gonna think out loud for a second. ]

I don't know. I mean, there is the issue where this basically confirms a particular religion is true, which some people would be having a crisis about at this point, but... that's not it.

So... [ She shrugs. ] I guess I just wouldn't have expected you to look like a regular dude?

I have not been a religious figure in centuries.

[ though the little norse mage is running around so . . . maybe that's not completely true. ]

And what precisely am I supposed to look like?

[ Ami takes the question under serious consideration, looking him up and down for a moment. What would a Norse god look like? ... Yeah, you know what, she's just gonna let her imagination run wild on this one. HASHTAG YOLO. ]

Let's see... I guess like, bulkier? And you'd have some kind of fancy robes or armor, and a big cape. Oh, and one of those iconic Viking helmets with the horns or wings that they didn't really wear. Aaaand... mmm, probably different colored hair, and a beard? [ She nods, satisfied. ] Yeah, something like that.

[ So, more like Thor, basically. ]

[ dryly. ]

Thankfully, I'm relieved I don't fit in such a banal stereotype.

[ Ami pauses, then laughs nervously. Wow, that went over like a lead balloon, didn't it? ]

Ahaha... yeah, that... I guess that was pretty bad. Sorry.

[ Maybe it's time to change the subject, before she puts her foot any further in her mouth. ]

A-anyway, um - are you enjoying the party so far? Other than this part of it?

[ loki gives a loose shrug. ]

It is a little different from the parties I am used to, but it is not terrible.

[ That's... good? That's probably good. Not terrible is good. ]

Yeah? What's an Asgard party like?

[ loki is sparse with compliments ok. ]

There is lots of drinking, smashing of glasses and story-telling. And, of course, lechery.

[ Hmm.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Yeah, Ami does not think she would enjoy an Asgard party. ]

... Well, storytelling is nice.
