hi everyone!
i just wanted to let you all know
the meet and greet party previously discussed in this space
will be held tomorrow afternoon!

it will take place in the vr room lobby
and of course everyone is invited
refreshments and games will be provided
but if you would like a little extra challenge
please feel free to bring something to share!

attendance is mandatory!

seriously though i do hope to see all of you there ;)

The day of, a party appears in the VR Room lobby area, as promised!

Though it's not brightly lit, the lights there are are brightly colored, creating a chilled-out evening atmosphere like you'd find at a club. Plush chairs and couches are interspersed throughout the room, and there's been a solid attempt to clean the place up, or at least do something about all the dust.

A shortage of conventional party supplies has forced Ami and Cho to get creative, so the tables and parts of the wall are decorated with paper flowers, and the buffet table is presided over by a number of ... weird, pink, glitter-covered, vaguely animal-shaped sculptures made out of spare plastic pipes and stuff. With googly eyes. If nothing else they're a conversation piece.

FOOD: The main offering is barbecue! There's a pretty wide assortment of meats, all of which Cho has certified safe for human consumption, and also certified delicious. Chips, dried fruit, and a few different desserts are available, including homemade chocolate chip cookies that Ami made herself (wich Cho's help). All the trays are helpfully labeled, including allergy information.

Any and all potluck submissions are welcome as well! Just set it down over here and make a little card of your own.

DRINKS: Sadly, the coffee machine is still out of order. But there is a cooler stocked with ice and a few different choices of juice and soda. Alcoholic selections are limited to two types of pre-mixed drinks, which are intentionally weak on the alcohol, but at least they're not tequila sunrises. If guests want anything stronger, they'll need to bring it themselves.

ENTERTAINMENT: In fiddling with the controls, Ami got the overhead speakers to play some music, but couldn't figure out how to modify the playlist, so it's just one song on loop. Maybe if she keeps the volume kind of low, no one will notice. No live music is scheduled, but if anyone wants to bring a guitar and jam for a while, they will be more than welcome to.

And most of the arcade games are online! Anyone for Fruit Ninja? Air hockey? Dance Dance Retribution? Virtual Billiards? Or perhaps you'd like to try out a full-simulation game in the VR Rooms proper? Now's as good a time as any!

Oh, and don't forget to enter the raffle! The winner will be chosen randomly and announced a few hours into the party.

[ ah, the man who "outed" him. as if loki kept anything about himself a secret. it was a little entertaining. though it had the potential to get annoying, loki hadn't felt the need to lose his temper. if anything, it was probably more beneficial than hurtful. ]

[ Yeeeeah, Qubit's word doesn't carry enough weight for anything to have come of it, fortunately. Although the fact that nobody ever listens to him these days remains an endless source of frustration.

He's dreading this probably way more than he needs to. Loki already treats him like an imbecile, which is the one thing that's pretty much guaranteed to piss him off a hundred percent of the time, and admitting he was wrong feels like giving him ammunition. This is just going to make things worse, he's practically inviting the guy to make his life miserable, everything sucks and he hates it.

He takes a deep breath, straightens up. ]

... I think we may have started off on the wrong foot. I ... [ his hand waves in circles a bit, searching for the words ] ... jumped to certain conclusions, without proof, and I shouldn't have.

[ loki waves it off. ]

It comes with having a universal reputation.

Have you garnered a different proof then?

Mm. Not proof so much as hearsay, but that's still a step up from myths.

[ Peter didn't have much info about him, but Qubit maaaay have gone and read over some public network threads for intel. ]

... I'm willing to believe you are who you say you are. Initially I took you for some... jumped-up sorcerer using the name "Loki" for shock value. [ Quickly, he adds- ] Although in my defense, I have run into two different villains who went by "Lucifer", so it wouldn't have been the first time.

[ hearsay, huh? someone's been talking about him, then. most likely it is the boy.

So you are willing. But not convinced.

[ Qubit lifts his head slightly, his paranoia switching back into gear out of habit. What's that supposed to mean? Loki's not going to try to "convince" him now, is he? Or is he bluffing? Or ... is it nothing, and he's overanalyzing something that's not there? He can't get a read on this guy.

Whatever the case, though, he doesn't think Loki stands to gain much from messing with him. So he smiles wryly in return. ]

I'm also willing to believe your actions here are done in good faith. [ But by extension, he's not convinced of that, either. ] As long as that remains the case, I see no reason why we shouldn't get along famously.

[ how magnanimous. loki does not laugh, thankfully. a hand was revealed after all, and he's rather grateful for it. ]

And what of your good faith? You are rather quick when it comes to jumping to conclusions.

Well, my conclusions are usually right. [ It's not a bug, it's a feature! ] But not infallible. I'm not too proud to admit that.

[ Barely. But he is too proud to say the words "I was wrong and I'm sorry," apparently. ]

In any event, this station, these people, are under my protection. If you want more proof of that, ask Peter Parker. He's the one who vouched for you, incidentally.

Obviously. Who else would it be?

And what does your protection entail?

At this stage? Repair and maintenance, largely. Protection from the station itself. You were there when the defense systems went haywire. Ultimately, my goal is to prevent that sort of incident - or, should that be impossible, to mount an efficient response to it. Or to anything else that endangers them.

[ Soooo he's mainly a tech guy, if that's what Loki's asking. ]
