hi everyone!
i just wanted to let you all know
the meet and greet party previously discussed in this space
will be held tomorrow afternoon!

it will take place in the vr room lobby
and of course everyone is invited
refreshments and games will be provided
but if you would like a little extra challenge
please feel free to bring something to share!

attendance is mandatory!
(lol just kidding)
seriously though i do hope to see all of you there ;)

The day of, a party appears in the VR Room lobby area, as promised!

Though it's not brightly lit, the lights there are are brightly colored, creating a chilled-out evening atmosphere like you'd find at a club. Plush chairs and couches are interspersed throughout the room, and there's been a solid attempt to clean the place up, or at least do something about all the dust.

A shortage of conventional party supplies has forced Ami and Cho to get creative, so the tables and parts of the wall are decorated with paper flowers, and the buffet table is presided over by a number of ... weird, pink, glitter-covered, vaguely animal-shaped sculptures made out of spare plastic pipes and stuff. With googly eyes. If nothing else they're a conversation piece.

FOOD: The main offering is barbecue! There's a pretty wide assortment of meats, all of which Cho has certified safe for human consumption, and also certified delicious. Chips, dried fruit, and a few different desserts are available, including homemade chocolate chip cookies that Ami made herself (wich Cho's help). All the trays are helpfully labeled, including allergy information.

Any and all potluck submissions are welcome as well! Just set it down over here and make a little card of your own.

DRINKS: Sadly, the coffee machine is still out of order. But there is a cooler stocked with ice and a few different choices of juice and soda. Alcoholic selections are limited to two types of pre-mixed drinks, which are intentionally weak on the alcohol, but at least they're not tequila sunrises. If guests want anything stronger, they'll need to bring it themselves.

ENTERTAINMENT: In fiddling with the controls, Ami got the overhead speakers to play some music, but couldn't figure out how to modify the playlist, so it's just one song on loop. Maybe if she keeps the volume kind of low, no one will notice. No live music is scheduled, but if anyone wants to bring a guitar and jam for a while, they will be more than welcome to.

And most of the arcade games are online! Anyone for Fruit Ninja? Air hockey? Dance Dance Retribution? Virtual Billiards? Or perhaps you'd like to try out a full-simulation game in the VR Rooms proper? Now's as good a time as any!

Oh, and don't forget to enter the raffle! The winner will be chosen randomly and announced a few hours into the party.

It's all good. The way I see it, I've made it this far without magic, I'm not too bummed about not being able to pull it off. I do have other skills. Like, I can figure out how to fix pretty much everything here, and I can stick to walls.

[Which. Okay, maybe sounds completely weird. That's because it is.]

[Yes, that does sound weird, but given Peter is drunk, Carlisle is going to chalk that up to poor wording. He, too, likes to stick to walls, after all, albeit in the figurative sense. It's not really a skill, but more of a pastime/hobby/coping mechanism.]

Yeah. I got bit by a radioactive spider and it gave me super powers. That's not how spider bites or radiation usually work, so I can't really explain it, but it's a thing.

[SHRUG that's all he's got man. Spider powers.]

Radiation like what is outside? Are there radioactive spiders out there?

There might be. I got bit back home, though. Anything outside here might just try to eat us.

Yes, everything outside has thus far been aggressive. I suppose I will hope for the best regarding whether or not radioactive bugs made it here with us.

[Peter does have a point there. His brow knits, another question on his mind -- this one is more pertinent than "are there radioactive spiders in the wastes outside Anchor."]

So... what other spider abilities do you have? Or is that rude to ask?

I haaaave like, crazy super strength. Which you wouldn't think is a spider thing, but some spiders can hold up to like a hundred and seventy times their own weight. Totally a spider thing. I also have a sixth sense which uh, I'm not sure is a thing spiders actually have? But I got it from the spider, so I dunno, maybe they do.

I... would not presume to know what all the abilities of a spider are, so you are more of an expert than I.

[But he was totally thinking the web thing, just an FYI. And then not thinking it because he did not want to consider where Peter was shooting them from.]

I-- yeah, fair enough. But yeah, I guess whenever I'm not busy fixing things, I'm hanging out on the ceiling.

A useful talent to have.

[He considers asking why Peter would hang out on the ceiling, but assumes the answer is something along the lines of Why not? After all, if one could sit anywhere, the ceiling is as good a place as any.]

I suppose there are many useful talents among us. Pyromancy, technomancy, arach... nomancy.

[Peter just stares at Carlisle like he just had the most amazing idea ever.]

Oh man! "Arachnomancer" Would have been a way better super hero name that Spider-Man! Aw man, it's way too late to change it now.

[Peter's enthusiasm gets a genuine laugh from Carlisle, one a bit dry and hoarse and clearly in a state of disuse. It's a feat few of managed thus far.]

Do you summon spiders, though? I suppose it isn't a very accurate name unless you are able to conjure them when desired.

Ah, no, good point. God, that would be cool though. It might make me the creepiest super hero ever, but how cool would it be if I could just point at a bad guy and be like, boom, spiders?

A terrifying prospect, truly. One I assume you would only use for good.

Oh, for sure. I don't think there's an evil bone in my body.

[Believe him, he's looked. Drinking a bunch of weak booze drinks is about all he's got by way of rebelling.]

[This might be the lightest Carlisle has felt in a while. It's nice to just be able to joke about horrible things on occasion, especially given that, to many, he was evil incarnate.]

I would hate to tell Poison you had turned villainous.

[Peter starts to reply, pauses to think about it, and then gives Carlisle a nod. Like yeah, sounds legit.]

I-- y'know, I think you might be right about that. Better keep an eye on me, I might go straight up super villain if I'm not careful.

[He's joking, of course, but also spiders are horrible.]

I am glad we discussed this now, when you are perfectly sober and sure to remember giving me such a warning.

[He looks down at his drink, finally tucking his flask away. Boy, does he miss that feeling sometimes.]

I suppose I should freshen this up. Perhaps actually drink it this time.

It as been good to get to know you a bit better, and admittedly, this was a distraction I sorely needed.
